Instructions and recommendations for preparation of the file |

A source for eDition is a PDF file, but also all other image computer formats (JPG, TIF, GIF, BMP, PNG, etc…), which do not allow searching in the digitalized version of the publication later on. While loading materials to our server, we split every file to smaller parts (1MB). That is why in case of interruption of the transfer, the transfer continues from the interruption place. There are recommendations stated below which will save youtime and make your publication optimal for publishing.
PDF files
- Files should be prepared as individual pages – single page (not spread!)
- Resolution at least 200 DPI (or more)
- Cut to final dimension (without markers and additional spaces)
- Fonts included in PDF
Flash files
- Animations in Flash 8 or lower versions in SWF format
- Without empty (white) space around and on the edges of Flash animation
- For undisturbed activity of Flash animation, put the single colored object into the lowest layer of the animation. Since your Flash animation is included in other Flash animation, the color of the background would become transparent and the PDF file would be seen under the animation. With integration of the single colored object this problem is avoided.
- Frame rate for Flash files should be 24fps.
- Don't use Actionscript, because it can harm central application: _level0, _root in _parent reference.
- The list of global functions can be obtained here (eDition api).
- Avoid links in animations, because statistics will not detect them. Instead use click-through. The link you want statistics to log can be created in eDition.
- There is no file size restriction, but desired sizes of PDFs are optimized because of easier transmission of files over network. Profile for optimization in Adobe Indesign and Adobe Acrobat can be obtained here. (Acrobat) (Indesign)
- Don't use special signs such as spaces, brackets, commas, question marks etc. Underscores are allowed.
- Include writing fonts into SWF files using smaller animations, which don't use system fonts, and the best is to transform writing into vectors.
Video files
- Video files should be prepared in Flash8 FLV format. If this possibility is not an option, then we will adjust them instead and change them to FLV format.
- Suitable formats are Mpeg1, Mpeg2 and DV.
- DiVX formats are not suitable.
- Resolution must be a maximum of 320x240.
Sound files
- All sound material should be in mp3 format.
